IN THE FLOW

Bridging the Science and Practice of Mindfulness

By Deborah Norris, Ph.D.

Don’t just survive, live IN THE FLOW

Stress is ubiquitous. The pace of life has accelerated, and we’re all searching for ways to break free from the rapids of racing minds, taxing work days, family demands, and physical and mental health challenges.

Often, this stress has been building for years, slowly eroding our perception of control. Other times, we simply look up to find ourselves struggling in a phase of transition without familiar ground to hold onto. No matter the cause of your stress, it’s time to resolve the struggle and return to serenity.

IN THE FLOW: BRIDGING THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF MINDFULNESS presents the use of meditation to create a beautiful, thriving life of contentment and ease.

In the Flow by Dr. Deborah Norris is the most outstanding book on meditation published to date. The book is authoritative, complete, and readable. What is most amazing is the readability of this excellent text, as well as being complete in its scientific basis and its experiential relevance. Dr. Norris has also freed meditation from the mythological and the traditional religious frames of reference. Nonetheless this book brings forth a sense of spirituality that is profoundly human and exquisitely compassionate. Moreover this book is original in its sophisticated understanding of contemporary neuroscience and perceptual psychology, bringing forth and expanding the boundaries of our understanding and skills in meditation. This knowledge is presented in such an accessible and informative manner. Dr. Norris is a master teacher who teaches through this book the mastery of meditation. Her presentation is not repetitious of the same old simplistic themes that are relentlessly narrated in so many mindfulness texts. Importantly, her understanding of the subtle process of meditational knowingness is most useful for the psychotherapist who wishes to understand the process of meditation, and wishes to be able to use the benefits of meditation with their patients. Mindfulness is more often than not presented in such a simplistic frame that the power of meditation is hidden. This book brings forth the vast hidden neuropsychology of this dramatic skill of meditation. I recommend this book for everyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge and skill in meditative awareness. I am so happy to see that In the Flow is a direct and clear doorway into meditative experience.
